It's really worth it. Actually, if you get to Goldenrod City there's a train that runs to Saffron City in Kanto. You'll have to buy a pass, if I remember right, but it's probably worth it! I was thinking of doing that myself, after I travel to Ecruteak City and see if the Kimono Girls remember me.
